Hippotherapy……translated from the word, "hippos" which is the Greek
word for horse, treatment with the help of a horse, uses the horse’s three-dimensional movement directed by medical
professionals to facilitate occupational therapy (OT), physical therapy (PT) and speech/language pathology (SL/P).
Operating since 2000, The Sky’s the Limit Ranch, Inc is a volunteer program
that provides one-on-one Hippotherapy services free of charge to children and adults with a wide range of disabilities: Multiple
Sclerosis (MS), Muscular Dystrophy (MD), Cerebral Palsy (CP), Autism, Sensory Integration Dysfunction (SID), Traumatic Brain
Injury and others.
Sitting astride a horse as it walks most closely mirrors the human pelvis at the
walk. Both movements are three-dimensional, moving forward and backward, side to side and up and down. This movement cannot
be mechanically reproduced.
Utilizing Hippotherapy strengthens the involuntary core/trunk muscles. Every person
needs these muscles to sit, stand or walk. Able-bodied people think nothing of sitting, standing or walking or the balance
those tasks require. Every step the horse takes challenges the rider’s balance causing him/her to regain their balance.
Hippotherapy actually concentrates on the core muscles, strengthening and/or maintaining.
In addition to the physical benefits, Hippotherapy provides emotional and psychological
benefits by providing a sense of accomplishment, bonding, satisfaction and success.
Medical research studies
Cooperation with school districts and No Child Left Behind program
Continuing Education Hippotherapy curriculum for OT, PT and SL/P
Awareness education and cooperative community projects
Since July 2000, we provide a unique approach to many diagnoses.
Hippotherapy complements existing therapies riders already receive.
Hippotherapy enhances existing therapies riders already receive.
We provide the only Hippotherapy services in the metro area available to children
and adults.
We have over 100 on our waiting list and there are thousands more who can benefit
from Hippotherapy once they know about it.
Future Services; We are presently researching the protocols to provide our services
to veterans of military service. This program is known as "Horses for Heros" and will be administrated through the Veterans
Administration.

We presently receive support from the Oklahoma Elks Major Projects, Remington
Park Golf Classic, community event fundraising activities, individual monetary donations and in-kind donations. However, we
only operate seasonally due to not having an indoor arena.
Our current needs are:
1)...Monetary donations in order to pay for the feeding and care of our equine friends,
2)...Donations to purchase tack and session equipment. Donations of tack are accepted.
3)... Volunteers with horse experience to lead the session horses
4)...Volunteers to sidewalk and interact with the riders during sessions
5)...Volunteers to perform administrative tasks and make phone calls
6)...Volunteers to coordinate sessions, riders, leaders and sidewalkers
7)...An indoor facility in order to expand our services to weekdays and
year-round. This is our greatest need!
